About SBNR University

Why We Exist

You left the church.

You left the certainty, the shame,

the story that no longer held you.

But leaving didn’t erase the longing.

You still need depth.

You still need people.

You still need a place to ask, what now?

For so many, the old containers broke.

Therapy helps but doesn’t carry every spiritual ache.

Books and podcasts stir questions but don’t build belonging.

And too often, “spiritual spaces” feel shallow, influencer-driven, or untethered.

We created SBNR University for the ones in between—

those who can’t go back,

but who still hunger for honest conversation,

for practices that feel grounded,

for community that doesn’t demand pretending.

Our Vision

We believe spirituality doesn’t have to be shallow to be inclusive,

or rigid to be meaningful.

We believe in circles, not stages.

In dialogue, not dogma.

In listening more than lecturing.

Our vision is simple:

to create communities where people can show up as they are,

speak honestly,

and reimagine spirituality on their own terms

Our Roots

SBNR University was born out of years of walking with people through faith deconstruction, grief, and disillusionment.

We are chaplains, therapists, and spiritual directors—trauma-informed guides who have held space for thousands of stories. We’ve seen what happens when people are given permission to stop performing and start being real.

And we’ve seen how, even after leaving old systems, people still need each other. Still need places to practice depth, to tend wounds, to imagine new ways of living with meaning.

What Makes Us Different

  • Clinically trained facilitators – no gurus, no influencers, no spiritual salesmen

  • Trauma-informed circles – spaces designed for safety, honesty, and care

  • Structured, but spacious – guided conversations with room for real life

  • Rooted and open – drawing from wisdom traditions without enforcing belief

  • Community first – because healing happens together

A place to belong,

to wrestle,

to rebuild,

to keep listening for what matters now.
